Spicy Sand Tarts
Yields about 30 cookies.
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar + more to coat cookies
2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cayenne
1 cup chopped pecans
Preheat the oven to 325∞ F. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar. Add flour gradually and mix well. Add vanilla, salt and cayenne and mix well. Add nuts and stir to combine. Gather the dough into a ball and roll out on a lightly floured surface, about 1/2î thick. Cut into circles, crescents or simply roll into balls. Gather up the dough and repeat. Bake for 25 minutes on a cookie sheet lined with parchment until cookies are lightly browned. When baked, roll in additional powdered sugar while still hot.
