King Estate Pinot Gris, DaVinci Chianti Riserva

An Unexpected Delight

We’re not big pinot grigio drinkers, but Oregon’s King Estate Pinot Gris 2005 ($16.99) had us thinking twice. This greeny straw colored wine teased us with apples and honey on the nose. On the palate it was toasty, nutty, and spicy. It was crispy and very slightly sparkly. Overall it was excellent and matched delightfully with slightly spicy, pumpkin-filled homemade ravioli with a sage-shallot beurre blanc. This is a bottle we’ll be purchasing again.

A Full Bodied Red for Chilly Winter Nights

Earthy, with notes of tobacco and a touch of spice, DaVinci Chianti Riserva 2002 was heavenly with aged beef steaks accented with gorgonzola butter. This wine would pair nicely with a braise as well. So smooth and rich, it’ll warm you up like a cashmere wrap from Scotland. Perfect for a hearty winter meal on a chilly night. It’s 100% Sangiovese. $19.
